June 17, 2010 - Flight

We are seasoned fliers! By the time we reach Beijing, we will have almost 24 hours of flight time logged, and that's not counting lay-over time! The flight from LA to Hong Kong alone is just under 14 hours, and it's 4 more to Beijing.

Overall, the flight has been pretty uneventful. Both of the flights to Dallas and LA arrived a little ahead of schedule.

We had a little less than half of the delegation that needed to get boarding passes LA. It seemed like a simple task. We were able to hang out in the ticket area while they worked on it. About five minutes, they said. No problem... we had plenty of time. We were still sitting there when the plane was supposed to be boarding. They got us all ready and we took off about an hour late.

The business section of the plane is incredible! Each passenger has his or her own little couch area so they can stretch out to sleep. Not so much in the economy class.

I did have a little bit of a disconcerting moment. I was sitting in the middle of two Chinese people; a girl to my right who spoke English, and a gentleman to my left who did not. After we ate, we all fell off to sleep. When I woke up, the person to my left was a female! She doesn't speak English either, so I don't know what happened. I took another nap and he was back again! And I'm not dreaming all this because the girl sitting next to me had witnessed it too.

I did wake up to the smell of the most marvelous noodles, served only with chopsticks! Welcome to Hong Kong!
